Types of Hair Loss
There are many different categorized types of hair loss, each with their own causes and effects on the body, and with their own set of heartbreak. From hair thinning, to alopecia areata, to traction and scarring alopecia and Trichotillomania. Hair loss is not a one size fits all situation, not everyone experiences hair loss in the same area, in the same way or at the same rate. Different types of hair loss require different treatment plans. It is for this reason that each of our Trichology Clients begin their journey with us with a Trichology Consultation. During this consultation your type of hair loss will be identified and from there an action plan will be put together. Each plan includes a product system specially formulated to best suit your unique needs. Male & Female Pattern Baldness
Also known as Androgenetic Alopecia
Hereditary hair loss, more commonly known as Male or Female Pattern Baldness is definitely the most common type of hair loss. Caused by genes, hormones or aging and is easily detected under our microscope during our initial consultation.

Hair Thinning
Also known as Diffused Alopecia or Telogen Effluvium
Marked by a decrease in hair density all over the scalp rather than bald spots. There are many triggers to this such as; Pregnancy and hormonal shifts, Stress, Surgery or Anesthesia, Diet or Nutritional changes/deficiencies, Medications, Low iron or Vitamin D levels, or Chemicals in your current hair regimen. This type is easily identified during our initial consultation.

Alopecia Areata
Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder. It is marked by sudden hair loss in patches, commonly found around the nape of the neck. Typically brought on by stress and usually discovered approximately 3 months after a stressful event. Alopecia Areata is often identified during our initial consultation with the aid of our microscope.

Traction Alopecia
Traction alopecia is marked by a receding hairline and is caused by a constant pulling or tugging of the hair from extensions, braids, or tight ponytails. This type is easily reversed if caught in time and the action which caused the hairline to recede in the first place is eliminated. Traction alopecia is clearly identified during our consultation appointment.

Scarring Alopecia
This type of hair loss is the non-reversible, permanent destruction of the hair follicle. This can be caused by, but is not limited to; infection of the scalp, Heat or Chemical burns, Trauma, Underlying diseases or birth defect.
Referral to a Doctor for confirmative testing and treatment.

Trichotillomania
Trichotillomania is a mental health disorder marked by the constant and inescapable urge to pull out ones hair. Trichotillomania has it’s triggers but is often brought on by an immensely stressful event, or a depressive episode.
Referral to a Mental Health Professional for confirmative testing and treatment.

Each trichology journey begins with a consultation in our private trichology room to discuss your intake form, review your hair loss journey so far, identify your type of hair loss, and discuss where we will go together to regrow your hair.

Low Level Light Therapy
Low Level Light Therapy is a part of the multi therapeutic approach we take to stop and reverse your hair loss. It is a non-surgical treatment used to stimulate cell growth, penetrating all the way down to the dermal papilla, and is aimed at rapidly increasing hair growth.
In an independent study of Low Level Light Therapy 100% of subjects saw an increase in hair growth and 97% saw an increase in hair count. This further enforcing it’s effectiveness.
While there are many products available on the market for Low Level Light Therapy, at Carolyn Anderson Salon we use an in clinic light that has 160 diodes per each of the 5 panels, compared to other products maxing out at under 300 total.
*Low Level Light Therapy is not Laser Therapy, (lasers remove hair, red light stimulates hair growth) and it is not LED light therapy (LED light therapy does nothing for hair growht).*
